ROGIER VAN DER WEYDEN

He was born in Tournai in 1399. He received his first classes inn the workshop of Robert Champin in his hometown in 1427, and he obtained the Master in 1432.
In 1435, is proclamed the official painter of the city of Bruges (province of West Flanders), where he lived the rest of his life, with Jan Van Eyck, a bit older than him.
Rogier Van Der Weyden was one of the Fathers of the Flemish school of painting. His paintings stand out for their thoroughness detailed analyzing of the moods of the characters.
His first works, prior to 1430, show scenes from the life of the Virgin, as The Annunciation.
Between 1430 and 1450, it shows interest in the Passion of Christ. His works are then distinguished by cool colors and a tragic religious sentiment, with rigorous composition, and their characters so icy sculptures.
Introduced innovations such as the composition of groups of characters performing in The Descent from the Cross and placed in the foreground a figure back as in The Marriage of the Virgin.
Rogier van der Weyden died in Brussels on 16 June 1464.

Here I lend you some links for more information, to show some of his paints, and for more details about his life:
